Goodwe boasts three cutting-edge Research and Development hubs alongside two state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities situated in Suzhou, China, and Guangdong, China. Their growth trajectory has been impressive, expanding from a 5 GW capacity in 2018 to a remarkable 15 GW in 2020.
With the recent expansion of their Guangde facility, they are steadily progressing toward achieving a substantial 30 GW capacity. This significant milestone has firmly positioned them as a prominent global player in the industry, with a global distribution network of over 2 million inverters.
In recognition of their excellence, Goodwe has garnered numerous awards over the years, including the 2012 New Energy Innovation Prize and the 2012-2013 Polar Star Award, which recognised them as one of China’s top ten inverter manufacturers. In 2015, they clinched the Shine Cup for their outstanding work in string inverter production.
Their consistent commitment to quality was underscored by the TUV Rheinland Precisely Right certification from 2015 to 2020. Goodwe’s reputation extends beyond China, as they were recognised as the Top Brand for PV Inverters in Australia by EuPD Research from 2017 to 2021.
Their expertise in the field was further validated when they were named the number one Storage Hybrid manufacturer by Wood Mackenzie Power and Renewables in 2019. Goodwe also received the prestigious PV Magazine Award the same year.
In 2021, they were acknowledged as the most financially stable inverter company by Bloomberg NEF and secured the position of Australia’s third-largest rooftop inverter supplier by IHS Market, now part of S&P Global. Their commitment to excellence was once again celebrated in 2022 when they received the Sunwiz Award for being the Top Volume Manufacturer.

The GoodWe SBP series is the world’s first AC-coupled battery storage retrofit solution, with UPS function for both single-phase and three-phase systems. It can effectively upgrade any existing string inverter system by adding a backup battery. Capable of being grid-interactive, it allows users to store surplus power and sell it back to the grid when demand peaks and the price of electricity is at its highest. With UPS-level switching functionality (switching time less than 10 milliseconds), the SBP provides uninterruptible power supply to inductive loads such as air conditioners or refrigerators. The SBP inverter is actually compatible with quite a few battery options, we shall be talking about it being coupled with the Goodwe Lynx 5.4 L battery, as we always think matching the inverter with the same battery brand is the best thing to do. But this inverter would work with BYD, LG, Pylon, Dyness, Soluna, Alpha and Tecloman too. A full list of model numbers can be found here.
How it works is that you would start with purchasing the SBP inverter to the left, and then buy an additional battery. This inverter is capable of having anywhere between 1 to 6 batteries added, giving you a maximum capacity of 32.4 kWh, with a depth of discharge of 88.8%.
The inverter comes with a 10 year product warranty and weighs 18.5 kg. All batteries come with a 10 year product warranty and a 10 year performance warranty and weigh 57 kg each.
The battery is a lithium iron phosphate battery, meaning the cathode material is lithium iron phosphate, and the anode is a graphitic carbon electrode with a metallic backing. This means they have a lower cost, highly safe, toxicity is low (no cobalt) and a long life cycle. These type of batteries are used extensively within the EV market.
The inverter is 5 kW, and has a maximum discharge of 5.3 kW at any one time, HOWEVER this is VERY dependant on the battery brand you add to it! On a side note, if you want your property load to be covered completely by the battery, you cannot exceed a draw of more than 2.88 kW with 1 battery, and 5.76 kW with 2+ batteries, so don’t be putting everything on all at once.
As mentioned previously, you can add up to 6 batteries in parallel, with a depth of discharge being 88.8%, this is what you can expect your usable capacity to be.
Battery | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Capacity | 5.4 | 10.8 | 16.2 | 21.6 | 27.0 | 32.4 |
Usable Capacity | 4.8 | 9.6 | 14.4 | 19.2 | 24.0 | 28.8 |

Our Thoughts
A quality product, manufactured by a massive Chinese company with a strong trading history. We have worked extensively with Goodwe over the past 7 years, and they have been brilliant with us.
The Australian office allows for warranty issues to be catered for, even if your installation company disappears.
They will be a good choice by anyone, that will last the test of time and produce power for years to come.
We would definitely, without a shadow of a doubt install them on our own house or business.
