Single Phase EV Chargers: A Convenient and Efficient Solution
With the increasing popularity of electric vehicles (EVs), the need for efficient and accessible charging solutions has become a top priority. Among the various charging options available, single-phase EV chargers have emerged as a highly beneficial choice for EV owners. These chargers are specifically designed to provide a convenient and efficient charging experience, making EV ownership more accessible to a wider range of users.
Simplicity and Affordability
Single-phase EV chargers operate on a standard household electrical supply, typically at a voltage of 120 to 240 volts. This means that they can be easily installed in residential settings without the need for complex or expensive electrical upgrades. By utilizing existing power infrastructures, single-phase chargers provide a cost-effective solution for EV owners, promoting widespread adoption in home charging setups.
Versatility and Accessibility
One of the key advantages of single-phase EV chargers is their compatibility with a wide range of EV models. Unlike some high-powered three-phase chargers that are designed for specific EVs or commercial use, single-phase chargers can accommodate most electric vehicles available on the market. This versatility makes them a practical choice for EV owners who may own different models or anticipate future vehicle changes.
Additionally, single-phase chargers are not only suitable for residential installations but can also be utilized in workplaces, parking lots, and public areas. This versatility ensures that EV owners have access to charging infrastructure in various locations, thereby reducing range anxiety and promoting the overall convenience of driving electric.
Efficient and Timely Charging
While single-phase chargers are not as powerful as their three-phase counterparts, they still provide satisfactory charging speeds for many EV owners. Depending on the charger’s power rating and the EV’s onboard charger capacity, single-phase chargers can deliver anywhere from 3.7 kW to 7.4 kW of power. This translates to an approximate charging time of 8 to 16 hours for a typical EV battery.
For many daily commutes or overnight charging needs, this rate is more than sufficient. Most EV owners primarily use their vehicles for regular commuting, making single-phase chargers an ideal choice for overnight charging, ensuring that the vehicle is ready for use each day without any hassle or inconvenience.
Conclusion
Single-phase EV chargers offer multiple benefits, including simplicity and affordability, versatility and accessibility, as well as efficient and timely charging. Their compatibility with a wide range of EV models, ease of installation, and ability to capture solar energy has revolutionized the way we power our world. With the advancement of photovoltaic technology, solar panels have become more efficient and affordable than ever before. Their ability to convert sunlight into electricity has enabled individuals and industries to reduce their reliance on traditional fossil fuel sources. As a result, we have seen a significant decrease in greenhouse gas emissions, improved air quality, and a more sustainable future. Furthermore, the ability to capture solar energy has extended beyond rooftop installations. Innovations such as solar farms and solar-powered vehicles have emerged, expanding the reach and impact of solar energy on a larger scale. With the continued development and investment in solar technologies, the possibilities for a clean and renewable energy future are limitless.

You can buy the Zappi with tethered (comes with a type 2 charger and cable) or untethered, and black or white.
There are 3 modes :
ECO – This mode is a mixture of green energy and imported energy. It minimises the use of grid power to charge using 100% green energy from your renewable energy system, continuously adjusting in response to changes in generation or power being consumed elsewhere in the home. If surplus energy drops below 1.4 kW then power will be drawn from the grid
ECO+ – Charging power is continuously adjusted based on generation and demand from the home. The EV charging will pause if there is too much imported power from the grid, only continuing once surplus free power is available again.
FAST – The EV will be charged at maximum power, no matter where the power is derived from.
Myenergi have also developed a couple of other products to make your life easier.
Eddi – This allows you to direct 100% of your clean and green energy around your home, therefore no more exporting it back to the grid.
Harvi – This allows you to install the Zappi and Eddi without any unsightly hard wired current transformer (CT) clamps.

The single phase model is 7.6 kW, and it can be purchased tethered (comes with a type 2 charger and cable) or untethered. There is also access to an intelligent smartphone app which makes it easy to understand energy consumption when charging, what makes this charger stand out is the 3 modes :
FAST – The EV will charge at maximum power. Either from your renewable energy source or the grid, only limited by any current limit set by your electrician at point of installation.
SOLAR ASSIST – This mode will charge your EV at a minimum of 6 Amps plus any excess solar produced. If solar production is low, power will be drawn from the grid. This is the preferred solar mode, particularly on cloudy days or when you have a smaller solar system. This will ensure a continuous charge plus any excess solar that your home generates.
SOLAR ONLY – This mode charges your EV only when excess solar is produced. Please note a minimum excess of 7 Amps is required to use this mode to prevent excessive starting and stopping of the charging session which is not recommended. If the solar production drops below 6 Amps the charging will pause and then restart after 2-3 minutes of continuous excess solar above 7 Amps. We recommend this mode when you have a clear excess of solar power produced. Use Solar Assist when your production is low or intermittent.
